With Hurricane Gustav and then the possibility of Hurricane Ike hitting Louisiana my mom has been staying with us here in the "Armpit of Louisiana" AKA Pineville. My dad went back to Houma Thursday Morning to help with disaster recovery, and told my mom to stay, because they have no water, electricity, cable, or phones. Well everything has now been restored, and it looks like Hurricane Ike is going to miss them, so mom headed back home today.
While Lisa and I were at work yesterday mom washed all of my clothes, Lisa's and Liam's and then she swept the floors and vacuumed the carpets, and cleaned the bathroom she used. When Lisa and I got home from work she had supper ready for us too. It was like coming home to having a housekeeper. It was really nice to just come home and relax and not have to worry about anything. It was sad seeing her go, we had the chance to enjoy the feeling of having family around. She spent 9 days with us. That is one of the worst things about living in the "Armpit" we don't have any family around. No one to call on for help or a free babysitter. Well we do have some friends here that we could call if we needed anything, but it's not the same as family. It wasn't so bad when we first moved here, but now that we have Liam it's a little sad that we don't have family here that he can grow up with and see all the time. All the traveling sucks.

I miss not having family around as well. Even when we lived in Shreveport, we were only an hour and a half from my family; 50 minutes from Billy's. His parents would come babysit for us whenever we needed it, and his mom came one day a week to keep Caleb (and later Jacob) so I could get out of the house and do a few things on my own. Once we moved to Dallas, all of that was gone. In an instant.
Seeing family less often now makes the visits even sweeter - and the farewells sadder.
Yeah I know what you mean.
We get really excited about our trips to go see our family, but when it's time for us to leave we are ready to go. It's sad we don't want to leave it's sad, but we start getting on each other's nerves too.
